The Lion's Leap. Once when I was traveling in If emaqa Land, I observed a spot that wm im printed with at least twenty spoors or marks of a Liou's paw; and as I pointed them out a Xemaqua chief told m thst a lion had been practising his leap. Oa demanding an explanation, he said that if a lion .-prang at an animal, and miss ed it by leaping short, he would always go back where he sprang from and prac tice the leap, so as to be successful on the next occasion: and then he related to me the following anecdote, stating that he was an eye-witness ro the Inci dent: I was passing near the end of a cragnr hill, from which jutted out a smooth rock, of ten or twelve feet high, whea I perceived a number of Zebras galloping around it, which they were obliged to do as the rock beyond was quite eteep.
