On Jansay 1.t,1506, this in Sr opened its doors in their .ew and model bank building on the corner of Main and Able streets. They have ample capital to meet the demands of their bus isees. Their preesident, cashier and directors are almost ex clusively men to the manor born. We feel satisfied that their advent here will be a forerunner of ':pital coming from afar seeking investment in the many enter prises that are only -waiting for capital to put them in operation. We predict for them a successful and useful career in this section. The capital stock is $50,000. The officers are: M. M. Fisher, President; P. K. Abel, Vice-pres ident; L. Rogers, cashier. The directors are: R. W. Oglesby, P. . Abel, M. M. Fisher, R. C. Jones, J. M. Hyde, D. E. James, A- Rogers, F. L. Shaw. TO THE DEAR GIRLS. Few Words of Advies it Right Be Well to Heed. I have just received a notice from a young lady friend that she is going to get married, and name of man accompanied the information. I would not for the world say anything to hurt the sweet young thing's feelings, but I would like to have the satisfac tion of knowing that she had se riously studied the situation for five or ten minutes and knew that marriage was a contract that lasted for a long time. It is the easiest thing in the world for a young girl to jump in and marry, but if she is not careful she will find it a more irksome thing than she ever dreamed of. It is all right and just as cute as a French poodle to meet Charlie in the parlor every few nights and ob serve the nobility of his brow, and how cute he keeps his clothes pressed, but it is a different thing to eat scrambled eggs across the table from him for three hundred and sixty-five days in the year. and see him before he puts his mobile countenance to...

WlIDAY, JANtUARY 19, 1906. WATER WORKS. This is one necessity which the town of Winfield should have above all others, and it will not cost near what one would sup pose. The money expended in in this town on extra insurance will more than pay for the water works. We will here declare ourselves in favor of municipal ownership of all the public utili ties. Now that we are nearing a municipal election, we will advo cate the election of a progressive mayor and city council, who will inaugurate a movement by which our town will have water, lights and sewerage, the most...

DEFORBSTATION Oe of the Sourees of Our Wpalth Is the South's Magnifcent Forests. "There wa~ a time well within the memory of the present gener ation when immense virgin for ests were so common in this coun try that any one who predicted that the United States would ever have to deal with the problem of deforestation would have been laughed at. Yet the disappear ance of the forests has already become a serious matter in many parts of the country, and at the rate at which the timber is being cut it requires no abstruse calcu latious to foresee the time when wc will have practically lost our wealth-prodtucing forests, amn timber will have to be imported. Until within a very few years there was little to complain of on the scet1 of deforestation in the South, but with the disappear ance of the timber in the North ern and Western states the at tention of the saw' millmen has been diverted southward, and vast tracts of our splendid for ests of pine, cypre-s, oak and other woods have been ...
