This Poem Received tho Prize offered by TheBeixbctob for the best Original poem written by a Pupil of the Abilene Schools. Could Christmas know the joy it brings To tuch gay youthful hearts as ours, Would It not urge Time's steady -wings To mete with greater haste the hours? It seems to me I would not tiro To welcome Christmas oft and long; For then its presence would inspire My heart to love and lips to song. In mortals all a thread there lies Of careless thinking and neglect, When duties come and thoughts arise Which call for thought and truo rospect Those things which should command our scorn Are shown to us by Precept kind. The road which Ib&ds to endless morn Example tells us how to find. Since we so easily' forget The Onoto whom our thanks are due, Hare Chrlstmis often come, and let It speak of Christ, its Hero true. Let loving words our Christ...
