Merchants lead Eagle Rock Little League The er Merchants remained undefeated in the ER Little League after six games by defeating Birdsall Ford, 11-2. Then after being behind by 3 runs to last year’s champion, Citizen Chev team the Merchants stormed back behind ; some heavy hitting from Ben Wilks and Jim Henley to win easily 12-5* Cisneros in relief won. The "Lil Gents” who have lost only one game this year continued their winning ways by also taking two games. The "Gents” defeated both “Seven Up” and the Optimists Clubs in easy fashion to continue their hold on second place. In other league games, Kl- ! wanis defeated Citizens and ; Optimists Club defeated Rotary : Club. All ER Little League , major games are played at San Pascual Field and games start promptly at 5:30 pm. Monday | through Thursday. Local players 1 win Shuffle j Board trophies * Highland Park Shuffle Board Club's annual district tournament for singles was held last week at the Highland Park playground, with teams entered from Glendale, the Valley, Pasadena and Highland Park. Women’s singles winners were Lenora Brinkman of Highland Park, first place; Doris Aves. of Glendale, a second ;Thresa Colwell of Glendale, third, and Pearl Faulkner of Valley, fourth. Men’s singles winners were, in order, William Wilkins of Pasadena, Dennis O’Leary of South Pasadena, William Barrows of Highland Park and Fred Bryant of Pasadena. Franklin -Finishes fifth in NL baseball standings By Pete Griffin Franklin High Franklin Panther* met Belmont High School last Thursday in the last game of the 1964 baseball season in a battle for fourth place in Northern League. Belmont Sentinels won, 2-0. Franklin didn’t play a very good game, collecting only four hits during the afternoon and making as many errors. The Franklin hits were gathered by Richard Morehead, Joe McCarthy, and Jesse Gomez who had two. Dennis Lastusky of Belmont pitched a fine game as he struck out 13 batters while holding the Panthers scoreless. The Sentinels scored two runs in the third inning, and this number turned out to be all they needed. Taking care of the mound duty for Franklin were two pitchers. Tom Baker started the game, pitching five innings, giving up two runs while striking out seven batters. In the fifth inning, Tom was pulled for a pinch hitter, Gomez. Athlets form new NE area track club By Henk Frieser ’ Track and field in the Northeast area received a big boost last week with the formation of the Eagle Rock Track and Field Club. Boys who \£ould normally have to suspend competition after the high school season would be able to join the Club and work out with other athletes of their capacity and with ablebodied coaching. Though the ERTFC is still new, they are making rapid advances in this area. Already many wellknown athletes have signed up for the competition events, which start May 30.
