The solemnity' of an "intense" scene in the American drama, "Within the Law," was mar red on the night the Tasmanian was present by a mishap which made one Individual at least very angry. I am not particularly -keen on satin for outdoor wear; but Dame Fashion has set the seal o£ her ap I proval upon quite lilain skirls of good. | satin, and smartly-made little coats of brocade. One coat which .1 liked very much was something between an Eton and a .bolero, the fronts round Gd off and finished with a stitched band of material, which crossed over, to one side and was there held in.po-^. sition with a large cut ornament. Oth er coats are fairly long, with odd shaped basques highly embroidered; but for ordinary wear brocade's the tning. Small coats of this kind are most useful for wearing with muslin gowns prior to setting in of the sum- ^ mer, for often something of medium , thickness is necessary for the first spring days.
