HOBART TOWN. Sitting Magistrate--Tnomas Archer, Efq. SHIP NEWS.--The fhip Mary, Capt. Orman, which recently arrived here from Calcutta with a cargo, for this Port and Sydney, sailed for Port Jack- fon on Tuefday laft.--Paffengers, Captain Trotter, of the Bengal Native Infantry and Mr. Henry O'Brien. Remain in the harbour, the fhip Hiber- nia(which will fail for Port Jackfon in the courfe of the enfuing week), and the brigs Jupiter and Sophia.       On Monday afternoon laft, as a boat, in     which were three men and one woman, with ninety bufhels of wheat, was coming down the Derwent from New Norfolk, it unfortunately funk off Long Reach, owing to a fudden fquall of wind which completely filled her with water while the men were heaving the grain overboard to lighten the boat; by which acci- dent, melancholy to relate, the poor woman was drowned. BRITISH EXTRACTS; A correspondent of The Newry Telegraph communicates the following trait :- At the ever memorable battle of Waterloo, a subaltern     of the British infantry was wounded and made prisoner. Shortly after this event, the French regiment by whom he had been taken gave way, leaving the English officer and one of their own men, who was wounded (his leg broken) on the ground-the Frenchman deliberately collected several of the cartouch-boxes of his fallen com- rades, feitiag himfelf among them with his rifle, placing two or three fcoapfacks before him as a reft for his pièce. BRITISH EXTRACTS. PERPETUAL Motion.--We have much pleasure in being enabled to announce to the public, that Mr. Lewis Bayne, Officer of Excise, in this place, two years ago, constructed   a perpetually moving time-piece, which, we are informed, measures time with the greatest exactness. This machine is kept in motion by means of magnetic attraction ; but in the con- struction of it, Mr. Bayne makes use of but one magnet. It is only about six months since this very ingenious time-piece was shown to us, but there are several inhabitants of this place, who have seen it going there two years past. The inventor has often been requested to announce his invention to the public, but it is only now that he oonsented to do so. He is about to construct one on a small scale, to stand on a table or chimney-piece.
