Wanted—A Road (To the Editor.) [Newspaper Article] — South Coast Times and Wollongong Argus — 9 April 1915

A0.u..Br-jj:-gv-3^»T- : , ? ? iRdaiir (To ? the Editor.) 1 Sir,— I wish to urge the Central IUawarra Council to open up the proposed road .trom Jvembla Village to O'Brieii's-road, 'without unnecess ary delay. The . finest apples in the world are grown at the back of Mt. Kembla, and thousands: of acres of fine apple land would be tapped ' by j this road, thereby bringing a largely I increased revenue to the Council. I say the increased revenue would re pay the Council the money expended on this road in a couple of yearB. Hundreds of cases of line apples have been allowed to go to waste this season, simply because there was no road to biing them out. I contend it is the Council's duty to open up roads, so that the ma' on the land can get his produce to market. At the present time to follow the old road round Ivembla Heights to where the proposed road strikes O'Rrien's road is a distance of about ten miles; by the direct road, as prop osed, about one mile — so by one trip there and bac...

AUSTINMER [Newspaper Article] — South Coast Times and Wollongong Argus — 9 April 1915

glut ?1*wV (Our Cprreispondent.) The ooptous 'downfalls' of rain, i howevey much needed all over tnc country, iiad a disastrous effect bj» ~ the taster holidays here. Although tntermittantly visitors werej gladden | ed with sunshine,^ on the whole, ex cept for the few days before Eiaster Monday, all were kept in their cot tages. Tihe visitors, contrary to the j usual custom, were mostly grown-u/s | and as a criterion of the numbers, that can be crowded into a relative ty small space one has only to give the statement of the rallwayoflicials that over two thousand tickets were collected at the local station. This far exceeds any total reached pre viously, and snows that Austinmer is becoming increasingly popular as a resort. The excellent servac© oi the tradespeople, the up-to-date dressing accommodation, and the energsifi; work of the local Surf Club, hso a ? good deal to do with this. We are glad to see, through the ex \ ample of Mr, W. A. Clark, of Inter national tennis fame, who ...

BOXING. [Newspaper Article] — South Coast Times and Wollongong Argus — 9 April 1915

BOXING. Bert Barrett, who has been respon? i sible for heavy casualty lists in the army of boxers who have opposed frim at various intervals on the S. Coast, is to fav0r the northern town of Muriv ilium bah with a visit, wlilre he will finish his preparation for a battle with that well-know^ boxer1 of South African fame, Arthur Douglas. Barrett should\ draw well in any of the northern towns; he is strong and fast, has great endurance and is one of the best defensive box ers in the game. He is not attrac tive in his preparations, because he is a natural fighter, and does not care to divulge his secrets until the prpper time and place. Notwithstan ding the great . number of fights he has had' in Wollongong, he is still the best draw we have provided. Hie op * ' ponent is worthy of the match. He will accompanied by a wfell-known. local sportr\Sid Young, and some of his followers are taking their annual V holidays, at this time, with the ob ject of making it a remunerative va cation.
