MEAT BOARD TEMPORARY APPOINTMENTS. AMENDING BILL LIKELY. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 4 April 1924

MEAT BOARD TEMPORARY APPOINTMENTS. AMENDING BILL LIKELY. The Government has made temporary appointments to the Metropolitan Meat Board. Mr. King and Mr. Osborne, have been re-appolnted, and a third appoint ment probably will be made next week. Mr. J. B. Cramsie was not an ap plicant for re-appointment. The 'Herald' report of the meeting of Cabinet includes this: 'The appointments were to b'e made on the understanding that if after consideration the Government should deem it wise to amend the ? Act, 'then, on the request of the Gov ernment, the members of the Board should resign.' The heavy type is ours ! Evidently we can look forward to a new Board, or something akin to it, in due course. When the Government introduces an Amending Bill, it should go through Parliament easily. So that the matter rests entirely with the Government. Possibly after the Amending Bill is put through Parliament, a Commis sioner will be appointed, and he may have the assistance of a small con sultative coun...

Domestic Help FOR THE COUNTRY A Notable Scheme [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 4 April 1924

Bossiesftic Meftp ? ? ' ? ? FOR THE COUNTRY A Notable Scheme As Inlanders know, the lack of do mestic help is one of the big diffi culties of the Bush. A great many homes find it impossible to get domes tics. The supply in N.S.W. is a long , way short of the demand, and, of course, the city demand gets tho pre rerence rrom tlie available domestics. Life on . the land is made much more difficult, especially for the women folk, because of this lack of domestic help. 'ihe difficulty is well known, but what tho bush wants to know is how can - it be got over. The Domestic Immi gration Society' has been formed for the purpose, and it looks like helping the bush wonderfully. This Society aims at bringing out about six hundred young domestics every year from Great Britain, and they will be for the coun try only. Representative men on the land, who have considered the scheme, are cordially supporting the Society, and it should prove a grfcat success, A T-T-D ntr A T LA JL 1VU V ilJU. The sch...

Training Grounds [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 4 April 1924

Training Grounds 'We want to see the men' in the country taking a more and more active interest in public affairs. The country has the brains, the energy, the charac ter, the interests at stake 1 See that ii.is used more for the public good. In tfee organisations of the man on the lajad, there are excellent training grounds for this material. The great thing is to attend the meetings, and taking part in the discussions. In the cities the young men find training inf debating societies, which enable them to learn to think on .their feet, to express their thoughts 'clearly, and it encourages them to study their subjects. When a young man knows that he is going to get on his feet, and express his opinions before a gathering,, he will see to it that he gives considerable thought to the subject beforehand. By taking active part in the meet ings the young man is educating him self. If you want to know how much you know on a subject, get up and make a speech on it I There is joy, if you are...

To Purify Water in a Tank [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 4 April 1924

To Purify Water in a Tank ? ? %i#. ? ? ? An enquiry was received recently as to the best method of preventing the forma tion of green slime on well water that had been pumped into an iron tank. 'The water is clear and fresh,' wrote the correspondent 'and I wash the tank out frequently, but within a few days this green slimy stuff appears,, and gets along inside the pipes, causing considerable trouble. Kindly adviso if there is any uninjurious - chemical, or what method I could adopt, to pre vent the growth. The water is used for domestic purposes.' The writer was advised to clean out the tank and cover it so as to exclude tho light. Simple aeration of tho water in the tank by blowing air into it would tend to prevent the abundant development of tJie algae (vegetable gnfwths) with their objectionable tastes and smells. The following methods were suggested for chemical purification and elimination of algae, ete. : — 1. Bleaching powder, used at the rate of 2 to 2i oz. per 1000 gallons...
