Cijc BStga <®ajette. " Quodpetis Uic est." SATURDAY, OCTOBER, 6,1866. The adjourned debate on the Public Education Bill took place on Thursday, the 27th ult. Tfc met with considera ble opposition and was further adjourned for a week. The Bill is clearly a Ministerial measure, and one the Government are determined to carry if possible. However divided on State-aid and Free Trade principles, the Ministry seem to be unanimous on the Public Education question. Whether this unity is a sort of compromise, br a Ministerial expediency, to make up for political ^differences on other important questions, we cannot say. But this we do know, that a more inconsistent Cabinet never held the reins of Government than Messrs. Martin, Parker and Co; and on this very education question they have exhibited such an utter want of political consistency, that it is enough to condemn that measure in- toto. mmt COURT OF PETTY SESSIONS. Tuesday, Oci. 2kp. (Before tlieir Worships H- Wren and II. Ritchie, Esqrs., J.P.'b ) Unsound Mind. Charles lnsley, sawyer, labouring under an aberration of intellect, was brought up for protection-:- he being un able to take care of himself. It was stated Aat the pri soner was perfectly quiet and harmless, only Pandering and incoherent in his talk. Bose lnsley, his wife, Leg ged their Worships to dismiss him, and said she would get a man to look after liim, as she considered that con finement in the eel's would make him worse, and might retard his recovery. Prisoner had only been about a week in his present state. The Bench ordered prisoner to be given up to the care of his wife, and added that if he should grow worse, or become violent, that she should seek the protection of the police. Polack v.
