MR. WEEKES BEFORE HIS CONSTITUENTS. [Newspaper Article] — Northern Times — 6 May 1857

MR. WEEKES 1SEFOII K HIS CONSTITUENTS. ? Our representative has not been sparing in his explanations of his political conduct. He stands before his constituents as an admirable type of a hard-working and consistent member. ?Mr. Weekes has not attempted by any orato rical displays to waste -the tune and tire the pa tience of the 1-Ioime, but has been indi-fatigahle in his attention to liU parliamentary labours and ever present to give bin veto upon all important sub jects. He hue advocated the local interest-* of the ?towns with taot and persevi-rance, and certainly nucceeded in obtaining a grant of money from a Government which has shown itself prepared to indulge in the extremes of extravagance anil pe riuriousness, and to avoid anyihing like a legitimate claim. We are not prepared to coincide with Mr. .Weekes in all his opinion*, (especially nn the Electric Telegraph and the propriety ol an Elective Upper House), still we admire that independani e of action which hus led him to co...
