An Impudent Scoundrel. . About three months ago an audacious robbery was committed at Waitga ratta, whereby , a, Mrs." Shroeder was relieved of some ^30 worth of jewel lery. At the time a description was given of the culprit, which left no doubt in the minds of Corowa people that the party referred to was none other than a man named Blelloch, who had been a resident of Corowa for some months. The first known locally of Blelloch was his connection with the Howard Vernon Opera Company, which eventually broke up in Ruther glen. Here Blelloch, jointly with Mr. Handley, proprietor of the " Ruther glen News," produced a drama from the pen of the latter, entitled "Un sexed ; or a Woman in a Thousand," but although the receipts were to have been given to the Miners' Association, Blelloch is alleged to have secured tho door takings, which culminated in an action at law fir tho recovery of the ■money and a cross-action for services rendered Blelloch' then transferred himself to Corowa, where ...

lnier*State Band Contest, A GUAM) inter-State bancl contest is being arranged for by the Band Asso ciation of New South Wales, to take place in Sydney on January 26 and 27, I902.' The committee of management consists of bandmasters and other pro minent bandsmen representing about 30 city mid country bands. The chief object of the movement is to inaugurate an annual band contest for all Austra lian bands, and by offering good prizes the committee hope to have no difficulty in bringing into the competition some of the foremost bands throughout the Commonwealth. The sum of ^350 lias been set aside for prizes, the iirst being £j$ cash, and two trophies valued £25 and £10 respectively. The ground had been prepared for the tree planting, and a spacious luncheon pavilion erected for the occasion. Shortly before mid-day Mr. Albert Chapman, M.L.A., accompanied by Messrs. AutUKY, Tuesdayi—Herbert Minton, alias ICoberta, anil Joseph Minton, alias Koberts, the men charged with the attempted bank robbery at Henty on August 6, were ti>day placed on trial at the Circuit Court before Mr. justice Silnpson. 1.., Accused were chafed at the Police Court with wounding Alfred Lamport, with intent to murder} but the chargc wan reduced to that of "being under arms they assaulted Alfred Lamport and wounded-him with intent to rob." Accused, who pleaded hot guilty, were defended by Sir. IJ. H. Monklev. When the case for the Crown was half through accuscd's attorney intimated thnt, acting on his advice, thev had decided to alter their pica and would plead guilty.
