Grioket Crumtjs. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 17 September 1895

Cricket Crumtjs. Cricket this season si-ems to be mora brisk than of yore. Miller, a Sydney player, is a great acquisi tion to the town— -a pretty and taking bat, and a bowler that wi'l prove destructive. He is in the Nar&ndera and Mechanics, but will play in test matches with the firmer. Higgins, this season w:ll play with the benedicts in the Married v. Single, and while the latter will miss him, he will be very welcome in tbe ranks qf the benedicts. Billy Stewart has gone into the Narandera team this year. His loss to the Median a' will be great. If the players turn up to practice as they do at present during the 8 ason, some good games should be the result. If the Hay folk do not Bend up a te 1111 early tliis season, I believe the local pUyers inteud to journey down there, and if they do, they will render a good acqount of them, selves. The Narandera team— on p»per— seem* far stronger than las. year. They want to be. The Cosmopolitans— » new club— bare a few fair players...

HOMESTEAD SELECTION VALUES. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 17 September 1895

HOMESTEAD SELECTION VALUES. Thi deputation which waited on the Minister for Lands last week to brin^ under his notice the areas into which homestead selections were being cut up, and the rentals being put upon them, dealt -with a subject of very great, importance. Upon the manner in which it ia administered in this respect, in fact, will largerly depend the success of the new Act. It goes without saying that the success of the homestead selection system Trill be seriously imperilled if selectors aro allowed only to take up areas 80 small as to render it impossible for them to make a living off them. On tho other hand, sight mast not he lost of the feet that in a good many cases in this colony a greater measure of suc cess veonld have been obtained by the men whom we call ' small' if the area held by them had been considerably less than it is. This particularly refers to men who hold land, emin ently suited, ao far as soil and near ness to railway are concerned, for agricnltare, but ...
