AT the risk of incurring the enmity of the whole body of publicanB in Black all, and with the certainty of offending tho magistrates who composed the Licensing Court yesterday afternoon, we must unhesitatingly condemn the deci sion given by the Bench as irrational and nnjost. Taking the case of ouc applicant into consideration the case may be thus explained, Mr. HCBTON iB the lessee of a public-house in Black all, which has until lately been acccptcd by the public as the principal hotel in the town. Its former tenant leaves the bouse and receives a licence for an in ferior place. The new tenant goes to the expense of placing the old house in thorough repair, pulling down old build ings and replacing them with entirely new ones. He roofs the house afresh with iron, paints it within and without, builds new stables, and altogether spends several hundreds of pounds in making the hotel comfortable for the public....

COMMERCIAL. THE ENGLISH MARKETS. BY ELECTBIC TELEGRAPH. LONDON. May 4. Consols 981. 10,800 bales of wool were offered in the market to-day. Market quieter, prices weaker. LONDON, May 5. N. S. Wales 5 per cents arc quoted at 109. Wool market quieter. Priccs weaker as sales progress. Australian washed crossbreds have declined 2d. per lb. compared with last series. LONDON, May 8. At the wool market to-day half the available stock was sold. 5000 bales were withdrawn. Merinos have ad vanced since last sales from Id. to ljd., crossbreds 2d. lower that at close of the last series. The decline is attributed to a check on the French demand owing to strikes in France.

STOCK AND STATION EEPORT. BLAOKAliL, Wednesday. The weather has been cold during the week, but without rain. Showers fell at Avington on Saturday, and down the river at Mount Harlow and Welford heavy rains were ex perienced. Over six inches of rain fell dur ing Si hours, and the big lagoon at the last named station is now oversowing. At Well shot no rain is reported, though it is very urgently needed. MOHAHAN k Co., Blackall, report:-Fat Stock.-We have not heard of any move ment In this class of stock. Stores.-We have sold a small lot of picked steers for yoking at At 10/- per head, springers for milkers at £8; hackneys up to £26, at which figure we parted with a stylish one during the week, and also disposed of some unbroken draught fillies at £80 per head. 8.
