The Rockhampton Bulletin WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE GLADSTONE OBSERVER. SATURDAY, APRIL 20, 1872. [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 20 April 1872

WITH wm cn is IKCOBTORATED THE GLADSTONE OBSERVER. SATURDAY, APRIL 20, 1872. TUE requirements of a young and pro- gressive community like that of Rock- hampton are so numerous that they cannot by any possibility be all met. The question is not What do we want? but What eau we best do without? The town wants a copious water supply, but it also wants a more thorough system of drainage. In the absence of the latter, the obtaining of the former would be attended by a serious drawback. A ' plentiful water supply would at once treble and quadruple the consumption, and provide our back-yards and un- formed streets with superabundant moisture. At present this is a serious inconvenience during wet weather, and j were an abundant water supply obtained the discomfort would become chronic. Indeed, discomfort would be but the minor evil resulting from the perpetual swampiness of the town, for the health of its inhabitants would most certainly suffer, and tbe loss of life would be a heavy drawbac...

" THEKE maybe a bitch in the business yet." Yes, indeed ! There may be another dead-lock, or a dozen worse calamities before the end of this year of grace 1872. But we hope not, never- theless, and shall go on in the sure and certain hope that an extension of the northern railway to Lurline will be authorised this session {We say " Lurline," because Lurline Bun is on the left bank . of the Mackenzie, just opposite its junction with the Comet, because it ÍB written on the new Govern- ment map,-and because, as a name, it is euphonious and terse. We cannot always alford either time or space to say " The junction of the Comet aud Mac- kenzie." Therefore, until the proper authority gives the projected terminus a name, we shall take the liberty of designating it LUBLINE.) We reiterate, there may be a hitch yet. The recom- mendation of the Commission is not unanimous, as two of the five members protest against it. The question now arises, whether tho Government and Parliament will adopt th...
