NOTES AND COMMENTS [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 October 1910
NOTES AND COMMENTS The daily papers of Nashville are not well enough up on hig lore to report ; this year , instead of having reporters on hand , they simply took their data from the Secretary s office after everything was over . Mr . Fisher had as great a collection of sows as one often sees ; were he as strong with boars , he would make a sensational show . He has recently suffered a great loss in the death of Longfellow Premier C . The notable feature of the show was the large amount ot handsome young stuff sired by Lee s Artful Premier 12 th . Nearly everytning showed from the Brookhaven Farm was by him and many of his get were shown by others . It was a great disappointment to all of us that Mr . J . D . B . DeBow did not exhibit ; whenever he does , the other fellows have to take fewer ribbons home . However , he was on hand , and we were all glad to be with him . Lots of the good stuff was sold privately , after the exhibition , and brought good prices . The Brookhaven Farm w...

Kinloch Farm Jerseys [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 October 1910
Kinloch Farm Jerseys The value of a sire was never better demonstrated than by the purchase of Viola s Golden Jolly , the $ 12 , 000 . 00 son of Golden . Jolly and Lady Viola , owned at Kinloch Farm , Kirksville , Mo . This bull has been pronounced by Mr . T . S . Cooper , to he the greatest bull in the world and Kinloch Farm paid more money for Viola s Golden Jolly than was ever paid for any other bull in the history of Jersey cattle . Kinloch Farm has always believed in securing the very best possible sires regardless of cost . This farm paid $ 5 , 500 . 00 for Star Masterpiece and although the boar did not live a year after going to Kirksville , yet during that time he more than paid for himself and did not owe Messrs . Still & Laughlin one cent at his death . Viola s Golden Jolly has been owned at Kinloch Farm less than two years and in a recent conversation with Messrs . Still & Laughlin , it was stated that Viola s Golden Jolly , although he cost $ 12 ,...

The Profitable Type . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 October 1910
The Profitable Type . First , I wish to say that in my article last month the printer made me say Number Seven gained 48 pounds in 7 days , when that should have read 4 G pounds in 7 days . I get these records big enough when confined to facts . Again , in the cost of milk , 1800 gallons would cost me $ 171 . 00 , more than that amount cost Friend Hibbard , and not $ 17 . 00 as printed . These errors may happen at any time . In replying to Friend Hibbards article in May issue , it will be best to agree with him where I can . He says the Berkshire has for the last century stood as the model for all breeds of swine to follow this , to a certain extent , is true . Most all good things are counterfeited—even our Berkshires . The Poland-Chinas have come under that head . However , I want you to understand that it was the type set before you in the April issue that the . Poland-China men followed , and not an inferior type . Not only did they breed for that type , but they used Berkshire ...
