One may read in the folklore of the Rhin district of a mysterious tree that only c-n the night before Christ mas, and the eld myth assures us we have only to go to a certain spot to find it all to be tru--. As the first authentic accounts of a Christmas gift tree are in the annals of this same Rhine neighbor hood, may we not believe that the holy mystery supposed to be concealed in the blossoming tree was commemorated and perpetuated in the decoration of the Christmas spruce? At all events, it is in historical records of Srrasburg from the year 16 00 we first read of a real Christmas tree.
