l"roof Fostlro. It takes a pretty shrewd roan to get ahead of a Mexican custom offic xal but the average Arizona cowboy comes about as near it when he turn liimself loose as any other man Some time ago a Santa Oruz valley cattle man went into Sonora on bus iness and was, as is the custom, re- quired to give bond at the Sasabe custom house for the return of his saddle horse. On the return trip and when within ten miles of Sasabe the horse died. Going into the cus- ton house he stated tho facts, but it was no go and the officials demanded that he pay the amount of the bond. He then introduced witnesses who described tho horse and testified that it had died ten miles south. This would not do and the customs offic ials insisted that he must pay. Now Jje hadn't been in the cattle business pn the border all these years with out Jearning a trick or two. He quietly winked at himself and went off and hired a teamster to haul the I dead horse up to the custom house door. Tho officials with an...

General Rusk on Wool aud Mutton. 5 The Secretary of Agriculture, in his past annual report, says: Sheep and wcol receive special considera tion in the report The growth of the mutton 'interest is referred to as one to be greatly encouraged. As to wool growing the reduction of the tariff in 18S3 is earnestly deplored. To it is attributed the great reduc tion in the number of sheep, which . the secretary says has since then fallen off by about 7,000,000 head, while the importation of wool has increased from 78,350,051 pounds in 1888 to 126,478,729 pounds the past year. "On behalf of this irr -dustry," says the secretary, "I com mend the facts to you, and should they be committed to Congress I ask for them intelligent and careful con sideration." Remedy lor Screw Woiing, The best remedy I have found for screw -worms, which are so pre valent at this time of the year, is chloroform, which can be procured from any druggist at from 60 to 65 cents per pound, and is chetnper and more efficie...
