A large propor nun 01 our population came fromVirginia andKentucky and wifhout any disparagement to tneir spirit of enterprise, it is safe to say that they are far be- liind ihe descendants of the jNewtuglanti Stales in the way of constructing railroads and other public improvements. ineir cnier Rtock in trade seems to be that they are the descendants of the "Old Domin ion." In this they take pride much more than they take stock in railways. A little in fusion of Yankee enterprise is needed in Southern Ohio to place it on a level with other portions of ihe State. THE VINTON RECORD. . MoARTHUK, OHIO, "THURSDAY, APKIL 18. '72. Elsewhkrk we publish a card from Capt. Jones in regard to his selection as . candidate for Elector of this District. It is proper to remark that the Keg deter has made no objection to Capt. Jones personally, but blames the delegations at Col ambus for making any selec tion at all, which it maintains should have been left to the Congressional Convention. When the editor ot the Regis ter remembers that the next Congressional Convention will not probably embrace the same counties as the Electoral district, he will have less cause to question the .propriety of the action of the delegates, and, at any rate, he is mistaken in saying that this and the Ath ens district are the only ones which selected candidates for Electors. We have paid bo attention to the matter, but we have noticed that Marcus Boggs is the candidate for Elector in the Chillicothe 'dis trict, and we think a 'little search would discover others, as it ahas bee...
