8 Sports The Brand November 10 1994 Eight Lettermen Three Starters Return Cowgirl Basketball Looks Forward to Successful Season by Josh Bower man The Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls' Basketball team is looking forward to anoth- er successful season this year. Second year head coach Julie Goodenough returns eight letter- men and three starters from a team that won the TIAA Confrence Championship and advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament. The returning Cowgirls are led by All-Confrence center Donna Roberts. Roberts led the team in scoring and rebounding last season with 14.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls will also count heavily on senior Shana Briggs for offensive punch this season. Briggs averaged 13 points and four rebounds as a starter last year. The Brand December 2 1994 Sports 12 Cowboys Thunder Past Missouri Valley 49-21 by Trenten Hilburn The thunder rolled Saturday Nov. 19 at Shelton Stadium as the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboys rolled over Missouri Valley College 42-21. The score was identical to the Cowboy playoff victory of one year ago when HSU downed Evangel (Mo.) College . Nov. 20 1993. It was a premier day for run- ning back Tommy Cupil who rushed for 227 yards on 29 car- ries. Cupil's rushing mark eclipsed his own personal best of 215 yards which was set against Austin College earlier this season. Cupil also broke the 1948 record set by Bob Chesney by scoring five touchdowns in one game. "Pete" Laney D- Hale Center was re-elected Tuesday as the 71st Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.
