MISCELLANY,             ORIGINAL AND SELECT.               NORTH EXPEDITION.—The account of the last   voyage has just been published. It had been decided that Captain Parry should make his third attempt to discover a North-west passage by the way of Davis'     Straits, Baffin's Bay and Prince Regent's inlet. The Hecla and Fury sailed upon that expedition from the   Nore on the 10th of May. During the voyage, Captain Parry did not see the sun above the horizon for 121   days, which time he was in comparative darkness, except from frequent exhibitions of the Aurora Borealis. The ice formed round the ships during the winter at port Bowen was from 5 to 14 feet thick. The loss of the Fury was the chief cause of returning home at that time ; but Captain Parr...

William Chandler and William Grant, belonging to the Field Police, and James Amos, a constable oí Jericho, were brought before the Court, charged with neglect of duty in not conveying to the   Gaoi, in Hobart Town, on the night of Monday last, two prisoners named James Williams and Henry Wright, who had been fully commit to take their trial       for felony in sheep-siealing. The prison ers had been placed in the care of these men by ihe magistrate, and on their arri- val in Town, instead of delivering up their charge into safe custody they con veyed them to a house of ill fame in Goulbourn Street where they were found by the Chief Constable, as related in our   ast. TUESDAY, JANUAY 16 Thomas Roston was charged with re- ceiving three blankets, of the Value of thirty shillings, the property of Mrs. Georgiana Paine, well-knowing them to   have been stolen. Verdict-Guilty David Forbes was tried for stealing two bushels of Wheat; the properly of John Stevens,and , one canvas bag, the property of, William Field, in Apil last.     Verdict - Not Guilty           William Harding was charged with a misdemeanour, in receiving two silver spoons of the value of twenty five shillings, on the 9th of December last, the property of Major Donald McLeod, of Talisker.
