THE Charleville Times. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8TH, 1898. Thomas Joseph Byrnes. [Newspaper Article] — The Charleville Times — 8 October 1898

THE Cijarletotlle Crows* SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8TH, 1898. Thomas Joseph Byrnes. THE mounful event under which the country ia still groaning belongs to the category of occurrences that make it hard to " indicate tho ways of God to man." So strange does it seem that the life most wanted, the life of most prou-iae, the man of men in the com munity, should bo taken while thou sands only a burden on the community are left. The life was not only taken, but exacted, taken with a persistency, if so much may be said without irrev erence, taken in spite of all that science and all that supplication could dc, although on their side were ranged the j efforts of a nation. It strikes the many with wonder, the few with dismay. It is a rare tribute to tho memory or the late Prime Minister of Queens land that he bore either close or dis tant examination. Men in general are like pictures--those that look well near the eyo become insipid at _ a. distance, those that look well at a dis tance grow rugged on...
