Pumping a Bike Tube AMAZING RESULT A Lincolnshire (England) nert^aper states .that the Bkegness Wbeelers had a diversion from the usual club run on a recent Sunday. This took the form of 'a tube bursting competition. A standard 38in. by ISIn. Moseley blcs'de inner tube was Mown Up and members had to guess how many strokes of a bicycle pump It would take to burst it. Guesses ranged from 888 to 5001 and some excitement was caused when pumping operations commenced. After describing the tension when the tube began to sbov a wart like distension at 800 strokes, the paper goes on: — It was pumped and pumped and at 7003 strokes it measured 6ft. 91n. across and the diameter of the tube was nearly 20 inches. A photograph was. taken at 7500 showing a ttcyde held up inside th; tube. After a while another measurement was made; by this time the bulge had filled out to -within a tew inches of the valve . .
