Land Legislation. [Newspaper Article] — Molong Express and Western District Advertiser — 17 February 1894

Land Legislation. To the Editor: Sir, — If anything were re quired- to prove the incompetence of . the present Parliament, it is afforded by the in excusable maimer in which the pressing need for land legislation, is neglected.- The :who^e work of pastoraX.and agricultural settlement is at a standstill, pending the passing of- a new; Land Bill-, yet sitting after sitting is wasted in frivolous discussion and oartv wrangling. If a systematic effort were made to termiuate the teud between! squatter and selector, . pastoralist and agriculturist, }»y, classifying the lands, and giving to each the - areas most suitable for their respective indus - tries; such an impetus would become afforded the energies of. each, that employment would speedily be found for all able and willing , to work. Careless Use of Fire. [Newspaper Article] — Molong Express and Western District Advertiser — 17 February 1894

Careless Use of Pire. ? ? I William Smith, a smart looking lad, about 14 years of age, was brought before the Molong Police Court last week charged with unlawfully and maliciously destroying, a quantity; of fencing, the property of Mr. H. S. M. Betts, of the value of £5. Defendant pleaded guilty* and Mr. Kinna, who appeared for Mr. Betts, said it was not bis client's wish to punish the lad severely. He jb|ij3..only taken proceedings against the boy to teach him that he should be more careful fin 'fut'are with 'fire. It appears, as Mr. Kinna .stated, that the defendant and another lad made a fire on one of the banks of the .creek in order to smoke a bees' nest and went away without extinguishing the fire, the result being that the flames spread and a quantity of fencing was destroyed. Had he wished to punish the lad severely.,' he would; have charged him with the careless use pf fire; and if found guilty he woulcrhave been liable to a term of six months' imprison ment, or a fine of £...

The Export of Frozen Mutton. [Newspaper Article] — Molong Express and Western District Advertiser — 17 February 1894

The iExport of Frozen Mutton. To the Editor : Dear Sir,— I wish to diaw your attention to an important industry that has been very much neglected in this colony ? an industry which is as valuable to New South Wales as it has proved to New Zea land,- viz.; . the export of frozen mutton^ Surely it can readily be seen that the present prices of fat and store cattle are at the very lowest possible ebb. How is it that the whole of- the graziers (large and small) do not make some effort to relieve themselves? The export of ' meait from New Zealand has ? _i _ ? rtn of wouHh frhm proved a pL uuuiai v* ,,vv,,fcr ? one end of that colony to the other. Our stock, to my mind, would very , . soon double,, in value for ;all . kinds if 'owners would only . recognlse-the gi eat advantages to be gaibed by the export of frozen beef and mutton. Nor is it to the large and wealthy pastoralists that this boon would come, but to all alike. The extension of: the industry would very Boon develop itself all ...
