ALEASURE YOUR THUM1B. The thumb confesses the man; no nan is elryer enough to deceive it. It sas been divided into three parts, typi y'ing the three qualities that master the vorld-will, logic, and love. The first Jr nail phalange, signifies will; the mecond, logic; the third, whiEb is the )oundary of the Mount of Venus, love. A Face Glove. [Newspaper Article] — Hawthorn, Kew, Camberwell Citizen — 30 October 1914

A Face Glove. Si weapons of torture belonging t the let table, while not as numerous am .they were, are bly no means extinct. That there is a positive demand for thlem is shown in the growing industry of a toilet mask factory. In Nell Gwynn' time the beauties on the boards and in the stalls buckled their faces in a plaster mask and went to bed to perspire away their defects as long as they could with out gettings suffocated or a wink of sleep. Now a face glove has been designed, which leaves the mouth, nose and eyes uncovered, but fits the face like an extra piece of epidermis and is held in place by elastic bands that reach about the head. The lining is treated with chemicals that draw like an old fashion mustard plaster and, if given sufficient time, is warrantes to draw up freckles, blotches and kindre( blemishes, roots andl all. The weareri advised to put on the glove during the day. )HIore benefits are claimed for thiu torturous implement than have-beer proved-NKo?w York World ...

WORLD-WIDE NOTES. [Newspaper Article] — Hawthorn, Kew, Camberwell Citizen — 30 October 1914

WORLD-WIDE NOTES. For 4000 years has Jerusalem been a holy city. It can never be any thing else. Whatever be the outcome of the regeneration of the Turkish Empire, Jerusalem can never be a Svery great centre of trade. It will remtain what it has been for so many centuries-the Holy City. To ,:the Jews it is thie city of David and Solomon, to the Christian the city where the Lord was crucified, to the Moslem also a city sanctified i-y many traditions, and by the me mory of the proud clays when it was won for Islam by Omar and by Sa Ladin.-Colonel Conder. When Mr. Gladstone unfolded his first Budget, in 1853, he had to rec kon, if we remember rightly, for about £57,000,000 as the total of na tional expenditure. A hundred mil lion Budget was the nightmare against which Mr. Cobden and Mr. Bright never ceased- to warn the country. But Mr. Lloyd-George has already brought our expenditure up to the prodigious total of £164,000, 000. Think of the naval expenses which must inevitably be met i...

All this from the land that our fathers . called barren, of which troubled Governor Phillip wrote a little over a hundred years ago--"All my sheep are dead. Sheep do not thrive in this country." But he was an exile, *he and the . men who came with him, ever turn in- their eyes to the north, longing - for the days to pass when they might go home. And these new men are a new na tion. It is no longer in the mak ing; it is made. They have not the longing for the land of the north tugging at their heart-stri...
