Site for Shire Offices. [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail and Central Mallee Advertiser — 29 January 1915

Site for Shire Offices. At the council meeting on Fri day evening last, the question of a site for building Shire offices on came up for discussion. The Secretary for Department of Lands and Survey wrote informing the Council that the Hon. the Minister of Lands had decided to   reserve Allot. 9, Sec. 2, township of Ouyen (situated near Cotter's store) for Municipal purposes. Miss N. Tickle wrote offering for sale an allotment in Oke street. A third offer was made by M. Grace of an allotment on the eastern side of the railway, the terms for which are set out in Cr Farrell's remarks.   Cr Farrell moved that M. Grace's offer be accepted, and said it was 43 years since he was first elected to a seat at a Council table and he had never heard of such a valuable gift to a shire by a ratepayer. It plainly meant that this ratepayer was giving a Crown Grant of an allotment of land, title free, that cost £50, at the Crown Lands sale, and was also giving in the im prov...

General News. [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail and Central Mallee Advertiser — 5 February 1915

General News. Farmers toften say that rabbits will not touzh poisoned bait if there be plenty of green grass in the paddocks. The inspector of vermic at Omeo has given proof that this theory is incorrect. Under his suporvision a 65-acre paddock .was poisoned with l0ibs. poisoned carrots. Next morning there were 442 dead rabbits. The paddock had plenty of green feed. A public meeting at Mildura has approved of the action to secure a licensed house for that town, and it is generally regarded as probable that an amendment of the Licen :sing Act allowing Mi!dura to come under the ordinary provisions of the Licensin~g Act will follow. Mr .R. H. Davies, of North 2ourt, Wallendbeen, N.S.W., ad dressed the following letter to the Seed Wheat Board in that State: "Owing to the treatment wheat growers are getting from the Go vernment I have no confidence to grow any wheat this year.
