EPPING DOWN HEIDELBERG [Newspaper Article] — Eltham and Whittlesea Shires Advertiser — 31 May 1940

EPPING DOWIN HEIDELBERG The surprise of the week in the Diamond Valley Association was pro- vided by the easy victory of Epping over Heidelberg. Previously both teams were unbeaten and it was an ticipated that the match would be a ding dong tussle, but Epping match ed the visitors in all departments, and in the final term ran away from them. Admittedly, Heidelberg was not at full strength, but neither was the home team which included N. Brazil and W. Mitchell in place of Jose and J. Paulka, the latter having injured his leg at work. These new players put up a very fine showing in the pocket and in defence respectively. The strong wind blowing down the Thomastown ground made accurate play difficult, if not impossibl-, iut the home team soon settled down. Heidelberg won the toss and decid ed to kick with the wind, of which they took full advantage in this quar ter. The Epping defence was hard pressed but put up a very good show ins. Inaccurate kicking by Heidel berg was indicated by t...
