First, hearing, Mr Page appeared for the insolvent. Mr Uffindell the only creditor, opposed, sod presented a petition for the reversion of adjudication; also an affidavit to the ef fect that Mr J. Symons, on bis behalf, bad attended the office of Messrs Herbert and Page, the place of meeting convened by insolvent's solicitor, and tbat after waiting for about an boar for the attendance of debtor and creditors, no one attended but himself. POLICE COURTS. Skowiowk, Tuesday. November 27,1888. (Before Mr J. Turner, J,P.) Barunga Jemmy, an aborigine, was brought op io custody, charged with using threatening language towards Mrs Mary McCormack. The complainant stated that Jemmy came to the bouse, at Barunga, as she was making up tbe mail. He asked for a drink, and then said, " Why you no gire me a drink, me kili you,'' at the same time flourifbing a waddy over his head. Witness was frightened of him. In Ccmrt Jemmy called oat to witness "Yon keep quiet now--you hold your tongue." ' Committed to Wallaroo gaol for one month. CRICKET. IT A TIT V A WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON F. YELTA 2nd ELEYEN. The above teams met at Kadina last Wednesday afternoon, and a good gams was the result. The Yeltas winning the toss decided to bat, and sent in Hocking and Shields to face the bowling of Jones and' Osborn. Jones opened to Shields who seored X, when be lost his partner (Hocking), who was bowled off bis pads by Jones. E. Clarke came next and a good stand was made, the total being raised from 1 to 54, when Shields was bowled by R. H. Paul!, he having made 31 by good cricket. Richards occupied the vacant crease, bat 5 runs later Clarke was smartly stumped by Gurner off Paull, having 24 to his credit, the result of patient batting. T. Roach came next and at 63 Richards gaye way to H. Clarke. He and Roach pot on 31 when Roach was bowled by Jones with a beauty, having made 23 out of the 31. Sib,-At tbe risk of reaping another shower of my fellow councillors sarcastic remarks and inuendoes I would ask you to grant me a little space tbat tbe rate* payers may know exactly tbe results of our proceedings. According to tbe assessment for 1888*9 a shilling rate will give an income of £655. Tbe estimated expenditure witb tbe last appointment of Inspector of Nuisances and width of tires will bring up the estimate of expenditure to £286. Tbe District Council Act states most distinctly tbat (clause 129) no Council shall expend more than one third of the whole of tbe general; rates. Tbat being the case the Conncil baye already necessitated the declaration of a 15d rate, for three times £286=£858, being £203 in excess of the income of the whole district at a Is rate.
