Sporting Notes from the Metropolis. FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. BRISBANE. April 9. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 5 May 1880

Sporting Notes from the Metropolis. FROM oun SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. UnisnAVE. Anril 0. Tun Sydney races are now over, mid nn im mediate attention is callcd to matters nenrer lioinc. The entries which were rcccivcd for the handicaps, both in Brisbane and Ipswich, nre highly satih-fnctoiy, and compnrc most favorably wjlh those received in Warwick. I suppose Hie latter place had good reasons for fixing their race meeting to take plocc before Brisbane, hut it certainly docs not team to hare met with the Approbation of liora gumrn; and it is hardly reasonable to suppose that many will make the two journeys up iheliuewith their horses. There are a few books open on the "double event" at Warwick, and \V, Henderson's lioise*- seem io have had the lion's shore of support as vet;-from 15 to 20 to 1 arc the odds offered -though it is rather risky work, backing horses before the weights nre out. By the way, W. Henderson had rather u narrow cscape of losing The Orphan n short while back, through...
