_Syatemotie _Physical Training . [Newspaper Article] — Weekly Gettysburgian — 21 September 1898

_Syatemotie _Physical Training . Again we see life upon the campus , and groups of eager young men may be seen at most any hour waiting for the _poitals of knowledge to open . They rush in , eager to compaie notes with the Professor , a procedure vulgarly called recitation . Indeed one might think that tin s was the chief object of many in attending the College . Far from discouraging this laudable object I would however icmind you ( if you need reminding ) that college life , like everything , has more than one side . This is the time also when the call comes to the foot-ball field , the time to let the hair glow long , notwithstanding the wag , who asserts that long hair is not an essential to the game because it has no part in it . Go in then , boys , and play to win . But the season of foot ball will pass and we soon feel the need _foi other exercise . Society Spirit . [Newspaper Article] — Weekly Gettysburgian — 21 September 1898

Society Spirit . Although within the last year there has been a marked improvement in geneial society interest and activity , yet , when compared with former years , it is yet far from being satisfactory . Occasionally a student meets one of the older alumni , whose recollection of a pleasant association with a literary society , perhaps leads him to inquire into their present condition . The student , with considerable humiliation , is obliged to tell him of the piesent low ebb at which society spint is running . The alumnus then recounts some of the thrilling experiences resulting fiom society rivalry , that he met with dining his college course , and wonders how the boys could ever have become lax in their intciest . Again , even at piesent we hear reports from other institutions where it appears that literary societies are regaidcd almost as sacred , and their inteiests are guaided about as jealously as were those of the old Romish Church by the popes . At some places it is said...

The Weekly Gettysburgiasi . [Newspaper Article] — Weekly Gettysburgian — 21 September 1898

The Weekly Gettysburgian. IT is only fitting that a few woids should be said concerning Mr . J . E . VVible , who died on the 14 th of August , and by whom the Gn ivsnuKGiAN has been printed since its _enttance into the College world . In our relations with Mi . Wible we have always found him a cordial , earnest business man . One who not only gave much attention to his own business , but who also took a great intciest in his business relations with others . Many a help and suggestion from Mi . Wible , has aided the board in no little degree , and his wide-awake inteicst in college affairs has shown that he had the welfare of the institution at heart . We can add but this , that by his death the college lost a loyal supporter and the community a Christian gentleman . WE embrace this opportunity of again bringing bcfoie the attention of our readers the 1900 Spectium , upon which work hab alicady been begun . The annual piomiscs to be one of the best ever published by the students of ...
