Ourhrothcr of the Patriot is sorely tried . — His patience has been put to a severe test . A free discussion of all subjects in which the public have an interest , is essential to the general welfare . Indeed , we do not consider that an editor has a right to refuse publication to articles , decorously written , relating to our public concerns , except so far as they are designed to promote the cause of party . Should he pursue an opposite course , the freedom of the press— the palladium of our liberties —so far as such editor is concerned , is most effectually abridged . These are general observations , but they are intended to apply particularly to a communication before us upon the snbiect of interest . We feel , wire wc sc disposed , that wc have no r uiht to reject the article . The public generally , who support j a press , have a right to hear all that can be i said , pro and con , upon this question ; and our columns are free for its discussion . Like I almost every other subject , it has two sides .
