P., was killed at mine No. 8 at Cherokee, Kansas. He was helping move the coal cars on the mine track and was caught between the bumpers and killed instantly. He was married, but had no children. For several years the cry of the farmers in the wheat belt has been for more box cars in which to ship their wheat. Fill in Flood Holes. At Wichita Mayor Ross announced that the street car company had agreed to haul any amount of dirt to South Riverside park to fill in the low places caused by the flood of last year and the rais ing of the levee along the river. Good Crop of Apples. The prospect for an abundant crop of apples was never better at Great Bend than at present and the different orchards around over the county are loaded with apples and the early varieties are selling for a good price now. The Winfield officers are vigorous in pursuit of dogs. Over 30 dogs were killed dur ing two days. Dog taxes are being paid on a large number of dogs, mak lag the best showing for a number of years. Drowned in Creek. Joe Bailey, the 15-year-old son of J. Bailey, a promin ent stock raiser, living near Arcadia, was drowned while fording Drywood creek at the Bailey farm, twelve miles north of Pittsburg. The creek passes through the Bailey stock farm.
