PAUL, Feb. 19.—The state audi tor's report for the years ending July 81, 1895, and July 31, 1894, will appear in book form i» a few days. The state auditor estimates the taxable value of all property in the state for 1894, at $650,000,000 that for the years 1895 and 1896 lists at |660,000,000and$670 000,000 respectively. "Owing to the heavy decrease on the gross earnings of our railroads," he con tinues, "the receipts from this source have fallen away since the end. of the fiscal year 1893, but in the natural order of things this condition will be bettered. The estimated receipts from this source, as given in the table, are thought to be entirely within the bounds of probabil ity." The School Fund. KALSEY, Ky., Feb. 26.—The state ment of a negro who died here has created quite a sensation in this place. The negro just before he passed away confessed to having committed five murders. Two of them were in Alabama, two in Tennessee and one in Georgia, He said that three of his victims were white women. He also said that one man had been hanged for one of his fiendish acts. The man was not guilty and was convicted on purely circum stantial evidence. He would not tell the exact localities where he had com mitted these crimes, but seemed to fully realize that he-would get his just de serts for his acts, and was in prayerful converse with the colored preacher here just before he died. Emil Traeger, the St. Paul insurance agent, is in the city. The Chautauqua Circle is now dis cussing the age of Milton. Ralph Yates will occupy the Hummel ,building on German Street. Mueller & Wiesner will receive a no vel horse-clipping machine this week. Chas. Weschcke and wife of Spring field spent Sunday here with the former's parents. F. H. Behnke moved into the Boesch building on South German Street last Saturday. The Baptists of the city will give a concert at Union Hall on Friday even ing, a week. A little son arrived at Henry Seifert's home on Thursday. Henry has our con gratulations. It is quite possible that Gen. Oliver O. Howard and Gen. Fitzhugh Lee may lecture hero late in the year.
