WhAiMbjtmr. CAMPBELL, PEEW & CO. KDrrOlb AND PROPRIETORS. TIICBMUAT XOBX1BO, Jl'SE 7. The Fenian invasion will unques tionably have a tendency to strengthen the hands' of the' Confederationlsts among the British provinces. Though the people, as a mass, have been op posed to this scheme of union, the inothet Government has been pushing it with at least considerable success in New Brunswick. The excitement runs very high in that province, and the Confederationists, after achieving sev eral other successes elsewhere* have now carried York County by a vote of nearly two to one. The Halifax (Nova Scotia) Chronicle estimates that the suc cess of the Confederation scheme would, in a few years' time, give that province a revenue of three millions of dollars. Fiohtino seems to be the business that is liveliest the world over,, just at present. Let us see: Here are the Fe nians fighting the Kannks, there the Mexicans are fighting Max and the Im perialists. CAMPBELL, FREW & CO. EDITORS AND PROFRIKTOKS. NATI'RDAY MORM.VG, JUNE ?. We have been sorry to hear of the the serious illness of our highly es teemed fellow-citizen, Daniel Peck, Esq., who has been coniined to biH res idence for some time back. We are . happy to state that his health is grad ually improving. Gold has had its "fly" for the pres ent, it seems, and once more tends downward. The New York money writers have been somewhat disap pointed in their predictions as to where it.wouldjgo after the Government agent quit selling in the gold room. It was thought the bulls might toss it up to almost any price, but, as it happen ed, the last European advices put a damper on the upward turn and the heavy buyers for a rise have been com pelled to feed the market at a loss. The criticisms and suggestions as to what the Government should do to regulate or modify the price are as numerous as the financial'writers, almost. The Ex press editor suggests that a notice like the following s...

UkfiSiddligMtr. CAMPBELL, PBEW & CO. EDITORS AND PROPRIETORS. MOSPAY BOKXlXfl, JPftg 1L ~ By an order of the City Council a no tice is posted at both entrances of the Market street suspension bridge across Wheeling creek, to tho eilect that it is dangerous for more than thirty persons to be upon tho briu^e at one time. On Sundays there are frequently two hun dred and filty people on it at one time, and practical persons for sometime past have had an eye to a calamity that may startle the city some day in a very unu sual manner. The only wonder is that such a calamity has never yet happened. One need not crosa the bridge to see that it is unsafe for more than thirty per sons at one time. The danger is ap parent by a single glance at the shoddj' nature and condition of tho whole struc ture. It is a very poor excuse for a bridge and in no respect is it a credit to the city. It ought to be taken down before it falls and kills or drowns a great many people, and a good, substan tial s...

Wktlhtidtymtr. CAMPBELL, PHBW & CO. SDITORS A-ND PROPRIKTORS. TL'ESDAY JIORKIXO. JCSE 11. Stephens, the Irish Head-Centre of Fenianiam, is known to be against the Canada raid. He was at Washington on Wednesday, but declined any pub lic reception by his countrymen, and retired for a few days to the house of a friend in the country, with the avowed purpose to prepare a decided protest against the lawless movements of Sweeny and Roberts, who, he thinks, are doing infinite damage to the cause of Irish liberty. He will return to Washington and deliver his protest in the fornx of an address. In private conversation at Washington he de nounced the leaders of the Canada raid as reckless and wholly irresponsible men, and he will probably make so plain and distinct a statement of the whole matter as to satisfy all reasonable Fenians that Ireland cannot be helped by freebooting operations on this con tinent. Our Canadian neighbors were very much disturbed at the suspension of the habeas co...
