Cunningham, Sr., will attend the Thirty-Seventh Carnea of Delta Tan Delta convening at Cleveland, Ohio, August 26th, and will hold a three days session. * The organization is a Greek college fraternity of which Mr. Cunning bam is the father of the institution, who in conjunction with six other young men, established the oiganization at Bethany, West Virginia, in 1859. They now have connection with forty three universities a»d colleges in the United States and has among its members many prominent men of the United States such as Will Carleton, Champ Clark, and others. Mr. Cunningham will be one of the speakers upon the subject which he supports with so much enthusiasm. He has letters from many parts of the country urging his presence at the notable gathering and has finally decided to accept the pressing invitations. LOCAL TOPICS. Saturday evening about 8 o'clock the Seattle Grain Co.'s warehouse was dis covered to be on fire a small hole having been burned through the roof but prompt action the fire department quickly stop ped the progress of the flame. Mr. F. C. Henneberg, agent for the company states the blaze was started by a sky rocket j alighting on the roof. The exceedingly ; dry season of the year makes it danger-1 ous to be using explosives of any kind and great care should be observed for the protection of the town at this hazard ous season against the fiery element. The people of the town are to be con gratulated on their habitual care in guarding against casualties from fire and doubtless 110 carelessness was in tended in the Saturday night incident. LOCAL TOPICS. The excellent advantages offered by the 3tfcte Normal School at Cheney .should be of> lnteres! to all our readers. The last legislature generously appropriated $72,000 for the support of the institution for the coming two years. Fifteen thou sand dollars are being spent in improve ments this summer. Last year the school had the largest attendance in its history. The authorities expect even a greater number this fall. The Normal has placed an ad in this i ssue. Wm. R. Wilson and Dora E. Lydel of Hatton were married in Seattle last Thursday. The groom is a well known contractor and painter of this city and the bride is the only daughter of L. L. LOCAL TOPICS. Four horses attached to a buggy the property of George Achziger became ex cited and unmanageable in front of the postoffice Tuesday morning while taking his mother for a drive and ran away throwing both out, the lady sustaining some very severe bruises. Two of the horses were being led tied to the top and as they ran down Railroad avenue to ward White River Lumber Co.'s office those tied behind overturned the buggy, throwing out both occupants and tearing the top loose. The rig was not very bad ly damaged and the horses were captured in the end of town. Evening services will be resumed at the Congregational church next Sunday at Bp. m. The pastor, Rev. F. Vernon Jones, will preach on "The Importance of an Education." All are invited to hear this address. The other services for the day as usual. Sabbath school at 10 a. m.
