A FATAL ACCIDENT. As the steamer San Rafael was making its 9:20 trip from the city this morning, a man named Turnbull, for some time past employed as a gardner at Sausalito jumped overboard while under delirium tremens. The steamer at the time was near Blossom Rock buoy. The forward starboard boat was promply made ready to lower manned by four deck hands but as the fourth was about to get in it is said that some interfering passenger lowered the boat from the front davits throwing her astern and two of the hands Constantine Travegna and Charles — were washed overboard. Frank -— who was in the boat held on to a seat and George —.——— who was just getting in got back on the steamer. The cry was given "two me, overboard" and the same instant it is said Constantine was carried under the paddle wheel and his body was not seen1 again. Charley was struck by the wheel on the chin and quickly dove under to avoid it. As quickly as possible the port doat was lowered safely manned by the mate Mr...

YACHTING. [Newspaper Article] — Sausalito News — 2 July 1885

YACHTING. The programmes of the two Yacht Clubs for the Fourth of July have been fully decided upon and the yachts are ready in fine condition. The Lurline and Halcyon came off the dry dock and started for Santa Cruz Tuesday and the Aggie, Fleur-de-Lis and Nellie preceded them a few days. Dr. Merritt has gracefully tendered Commodore Caduc of the Pacific Club the use of the Casco as a flag ship, which the Commodore will command in person. At 6;30 o'clock this morning the yachts started from their anchorage off Meigg's wharf at the firing of the signal gun and put off in good style for Santa Cruz. As the Alta put it they made a long leg and a short one to the heads whence they took their departure south. As soon as the Commodore's fleet is sighted from Pigeon Point, a distance of forty-six miles from tin Heads and twenty-four from Santa Cruz, the news will be telegraphed to the yachts at anchor, and they will get under weigh and proceed to join the new comers, and return in squadron ...
