The Brand - November 3 1994 Features 5 Beauty of Amersterdam Overshadowed by Legalized Drugs and Prostitution by Josh Jones This last weekend I had the opportunity to venture out across the North Sea via a red-eye ferry and spend a weekend in Holland. I was travelling with a friend from Lenoir Rhyne College in North Carolina. This was a trip we had both been anticipating for some time. We arrived at the Hook of Holland around seven o'clock Friday morning. We went from there to Leiden where we would find lodging for the next two nights. After leaving our luggage in our room and a short rest we caught a train to Amsterdam. Amsterdam is truly an incredible city. It is a shame that its rich culture and history are overshadowed by its infa- mous legalized drug and prostitu- tion trade. The Brand November 3 1994 Sports 11 Despite Adversity Cowgirl Soccer Finishes Season Strong by Trenten Hilburn The Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirl soccer pro- gram lost its final match Tuesday against a tough Texas Tech University team 6-0 but that one game cannot describe the Cowgirl season. For a team that has had to deal with adversity this season one game does not make a team. Interim coach Rena Lyman helped the team get through the good and the bad this season. "What she (Lyman) did was great" said Cowgirl Tonda Lolmaugh. "She put her heart into it and did a good job coach- ing us when no one else believed in us." HSU finished out their 1994 campaign with a 3-10-2 record games which were losses and Division II scholarship teams in Classic a respectable team aris- es with a 3-4-2 record. HARDIN'SIMMONS UNIVERSITY Th November 10 1994 Abilene Texas Vol. 82 No. 9 HSU Graduates Return to Abilene to Produce Films by Joy Evans The bright illumination of the lights the rolling of the cameras and the shrill voice of the director when he shouts "action" is all part of the Hollywood film-making experience. This experience which is merely a dream for most has become a reality for Hardin- Simmons graduates Steve Zimmer Tara Tremaine and two current students Stephen Madrid and Jaime Puente. The four are currently filming two movies in Abilene that will be distributed nationwide in January. Both of the movies being filmed are based on screenplays Zimmer wrote last spring for a Bible project in theology profes- sor Susan Pigott's class.
