ALEXAvNDRA SHIRE COUNCIL. INSPECTIONS BY COUNCILLORS. On the morning of August 9th Crs. Davy (president), Briggs, Jones, Al mond, Weeks and Edwards, accom panied by the shire engineer (Mr. L. H. Thompson), made inspections as follow: 1.-Underground drain across the road formation from open drain on north side of existing underground drain on the south side.-Water from three blocks may be taken across from north to south, Bon street, in front of I. Peters. It was decided to construct the drain from drain on north side .to the underground drain, at cost of £11. 2.-Lamont street, from Wattle street along Lamont street around to the second house of Ruoak Tim bers. Road needs formation, gravel ling and sealing, and a culvert in La imont street, near seasoning works. Cost, £569 (in accordance with esti mate given in' November, 1949), and culvert £12.-To be considered with next year's estimates, and Ruoak Tim bers to be approached for contribu tion towards the cost of the works. 3.-Webster...

rTlE LATE rLAIIA CANNY. We regret to announce the sudden death 'of an old identity of Chiltern and Seymour, in the person of Maria Canny, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Canny, well known iden tity of Chiltern in the early days, whose death occurred at her resi dence, Hardgin street, Seymour, on Saturday, August 5th, at the age of 67 years. Her sudden death came as a great shock to her sister, Nellie, who was residing with her till the time of her death. Deceased was born and educated 0 Chiltern, and was a resident there for 30 years, She then went to Sey mour with her sister, and had resid ed in that town for more than 30 years, where she was well known and highly respected, the esteem in which she was held being borne out by the attendance at the funeral, as well as the numerous floral tributes from friends in the district.
