Moss Vale Police Court. Charge ot" Assault. At the above court on Wednesday, be fore Mr. Maitland, P.M., John'Smith, a tramp, was charged with assaulting a girl 14 years and io months of age, at Exe ter, with intent to commit rape. After hearing of evidence, the charge was al tered to one of assault. The accused ap peared to be of unsound mind, his state ments being of an exceedingly rambling description. He was committed for trial at the Gouiburii • Quarter Sessions next Tuesday, bail.being refused.

Jude's Baud of Hope. The conductors and members of the St. Jude's Band of Hope must be con gratulated-on the splendid programme they had prepared for their meeting on Monday evening. The boisterous wind was responsible for a smaller audience than usual, but those who attended much enjoyed the spirited way. in which the girls and boys carried through their in structive entertainment. Each item had some useful and wholesome lesson to enforce, and it is to, be hoped that the youthful performers may themselves put these into practice. The Band of Hope is indebted to Mr. S. W. Hodge for the fresh and tuneful songs he brought from London; also for up-to-date recitatiou books which they use freely. Tile "Tem perance Alphabet," given by thirteen boys : and girls was most amusing "Farm Yard Voices" by a number of girls caused; merriment as each animal was made; to proclaim' its abstaining principles.
