THE POLITICAL OUTLOOK. (To the Editor of the Wyaloig Star. ?Sib, — It is not pleasant to enact the role of a political Jeremiah, yet, not withstanding the prevalent opinion that the new Parliament is in several respects an improvement on its predecessor, there are already indications that the ap proaching session will be ouc of tne stormiest 011 record. ELECTION OPPOSITION. [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Star and Temora and Barmedman Advertiser — 17 August 1894

ELECTION OPPOSITION. At first blush — when the storm of indignation was raging over tlie heads of the Reid Ministry, it was determined to oppose every Minister at the conitDg elections. Sir W. Manning, who fell a victim to the voice of the electors of Phillip Divi sion, was to oppose Mr. Reid in the Kiug Division. It was thought that the Protection vote cast, iii a solid body would give Sir William a great chance to defeat, the Freetrade chief. Added to this it was known that the Mayor's co-religimiists would stick to their man. With these chances it was thought Mr. Reid's detent, was possible. However, Sir William Manning, at the last moment, de clined to stand. The great, gun of the Protectionist part}-, Toby Barton, was to put on his armoui and fight. Sydney Smith, tlie Minister for Mines, but wher the excitement wai- toned down Mr. Barton refused, as he thought- it unmanly to enter in a contest so early. 1
