ROUND THE DISTRICT. HANSONVILLE. [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 16 October 1914

ROUND THE DISTRICT. HANSONVILLK. After four days' sultry weather a change promised on Friday, wlien the sky became overcast and threat ening. Unfortunatel/ the wind veered round to the south, and only a slight shower—hardly worthy the term—fell. Many crops are beginning to wither in some parts, while others hpve color, but are too short. Grass and water are also getting scarce. • Some of the springs that have never known to fail have given out this season, so that the j prospects are none too promising, although good falls of rata came in October and November of past years. A road contractor had a tussle with a large black snake on Satur day in an outbuilding at the rear of the Public Hall. Eventually a spade was brought into use and the dangerous reptile was immediately put out of action. Several others were killed during the week.

The Non-Advertiser. [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 16 October 1914

The Non- Advertiser. ■: Breathes there a Man with soul so dead Who never to himself hath said: 1"My trade of late is getting bftd, I'll try another two-inch ad." If such there be, go mark him well, • For him no bank account shall swell, No angel watch the golden stair To welcome him a millionaire; The man who never asks for trade, By local lines or ad. displayed, Care's more for rest than worldly gain And patronage must give him pain. Tread lightly, riends let no rude sound Disturb his solitude profound. Here let him live in calm repose, Unsought by men except he owes, And when hedies, go plant him deep. That naughtmay break his dreamless sleep, ' Where no rude clamor mey dispel The quiet that he loved so well, And that the world may know Its loss, . Place on liis grave a wreath of moss; And on a stone above,' "Here lies A ctramp who wouldn't advertiie."
