Siarybonmyh Chronicle :- J Maryborough, March 12, SIB,-I was much surprise! to read in thc last number of your journal, the report of a speech purporting to have been made by Mr. Haly to his consti- tuents in Gayndah. One portion Struck tue particularly-namely, the miserable excuse he gave for voting against the establishment of district courts. He states that it was on the score of expense, which fae modestly estimates at ¿.30,000 annually for each court. Now, Sir, to show what little reliance can be placed on such a statement, I beg to in I form you that, tu the colony of New Sou til Wales, there are eight vjstrict courte, presided over by nine jalges, and attended by five crown prosecutors, and that the total expense of all these courts dues sot auionnt to die sam that Mr. Haly acts down for one ...

NEW SOUTH WALLS. OH Saturday, the 22i:d ult., the Bishop of Sydney left for England by the mail steamer Northam The Government hare purchased the schemer Sea \Vi:ch, of ISO tons, for the aunt of Xl425. She is to be used as a pilot vessel, and in a few days will be sent out a-itb thren pilots, and will ' remain outside the heads until it is ne- cessary to come back for other pilots. "Negotiations have also been entered into 1 by the Government for the purchase of the schooner Bertha, 80 tons, for the ac- commodation of tbe surveying party under Captain Sydney, R N., who finds it impracticable to proceed with the sur- vey of the coast wiihout the aid of a small vessel. The cost of the purchase will lie divided between the Colonial and Imperial Governments. The news from the Lachlan is favour- able.
