TOWN TALK. [Newspaper Article] — Gippsland Times — 5 December 1862

TOWN TALK. Lake Wellington Regatta came off yesterday and a finer day for the trial of the sailing powers     of boats could not have been chosen. Owing to mismanagement or want of prearrangement on the part of the Stewards, the boats for the first race were not placed for starting until 12 o'clock, when s even boats drew up to the flag, awaiting the signal to s start At this time bothe the "The Lady Airlie" and the Port Albert boat the Mangrove were the favorites   and certainly judging from appearances they were the prettiest models on the lakes. The wind was by this time riding into a hard breeze, and nothing but breadth of beam and a fair length of keel could have any chance in saving time over the short chopping waves which were now running on the lake. As soon as the gun was fired the boats drew up sail and all made a fair start except the Bonnie Lassie which owing to some disagreement of the gear was the last to get off. The first por port...

TO THE EDITOR OF THE GIPPSLAND TIMES. [Newspaper Article] — Gippsland Times — 12 December 1862

TO TIT EDITOR OF TUH OIPPSLANSD TXES. Srt,-- lany of your renders will he glad to hear that the venerable T. C. B. Stretch has accepted the incumhiincv of St. Paul's church, Sale, andthat the bishop of the iliocese has intimated that he will also appoint himn to be Archdeacon of ?ippsland, and seed a curate to assist It is seldom that the claims of Gipps land receive such an amount of official recognition, and it is to be hoped that tihe people will co-operate in making these appointments a real benefit to the district. The parsanage is in a frightful state of delapilation, and the grounds have been suffered to go to ruin. Here is a direct money claimn upon us, but my chief object in writing this letter is to call attention to the fact that the Church is destitute of s?,eeral articles which would be better presented by private individuals wishinu to prove their zeal and love, than if offi cially purchased, and I feel sure that the connilttee would gladly receive such ofltringa. The arrival of the H. S. The sale will be held at our yards on Wednesday, 26th, and, although the market is just now in a very unsettled state, we see no reason for changing car late quotations : eay let quality 70s per 100 lbs; 2nd do., 50s do.
