I The Creatures Are Moat Happy When They Are Hooked—They Have Little Capacity For Suffering and Even Little Pleasure la Eating, A little boy was fishing for the first |feC'i time. With the customary luck of a beginner he had bass and perch galore Jpsjsu to answer the invitation of his bait. Presently the impulses of the hu mane side of his nature made a little hesitating protest against the more savage instincts of the sportsmanlike aide. The wriggling of the fish when lie caught them troubled him, and he sought to apologize to his conscience for the suffering he was apparently in flicting. He said, "I think the reason they jump so is that they are so glad to get out of that wet water." Curiously enough, if we may accept the testimony of the scientists, the lit 5 tie boy was quite right. A flsh is never so happy as when he is drawn out of the water. The air is to him quite a...

1 O LT before Thanksgiving Mr. Slawson won a tur key at a raffle and brought it home to fatten for tbe coming festival. The entire household followed him to the back yard, where he tied the bird by one leg to a, clothes post and proceeded to build small coop in the fence corner. While the rest of the family stood around hindering Mr. Slawson's work by mak ing suggestions and by laughing at him when he struck his thumb with the hammer, the two boys, Fred and Rob bie, were engaged in making the ac quaintance of the turkey. Robbie, the younger, was for naming him Dan, aft er the grocer's boy who took him for rides, but Fred stoutly maintained that the honor would better befit Uncle George, who had red whiskers. Mr. Slawson settled the matter by saying, with a wink at his wife, that the tur key's name was Dennis. During the soft, summery days which followed—for in Savannah the Novem ber sun shines warmly—Fred and Rob bie spent most of their time at the coop, feeding Dennis with ...

14 i. I Catarrh Is a disease of the mucous membrane or inner lining of the nose, throat, lungs, stomach, bowels and other organs. It is caused by a cold or suc cession of colds irritating the delicate surfaces, and is promoted by scrofulous taints in the blood. It Is especially dangerous in persons having a predisposition to consumption. In these and all other catarrhal cases, Hood's Sarsaparilla so thor oughly renovates the blood and re stores strength that it permanently cures. In fact, because of the character of the disease, and peculiar merit of the remedy. Hood's Sarsaparilla is the only common sense treatment for catarrh. Hood's Sarsaparilla Promises to cure and keeps the prom ise. N substitute for ood's acts like Hood's—be sure to get Hood's. Svtfeuw. By M. H. JEWELX. THE DAILY TRIBUNE. i' y| M- I ill 4 Tradition plays «o important apart in the arrangement of the Thanksgiv ing dinner that the mistress of the 'home «ls not allow ed all the latitude that the individual taste of the family or hcjfown inclina tions may suggest in preparing the Thanksgiving menu. But, whatever the custom may be regarding the menu vfor the day. she Is unhampered in tbte gLf matter of table decoration. Sps Fashions of the dining table and of fiipdiiiher giving are as much observed in Impolite society as the latest ideas in |Mdress. But so long as one adheres to l^lthe rules of suitability there is no dan ger of offending the critical taste of the most exacting. Often the personal attention a hostess gives to the table adornment is the secret of a successful entertainment. For the hostess who is blessed with original ideas in decora tion success is assured. I venture to suggest the employment of a scheme moderate in cost, but equal in effective |»ness and beauty to a far more expen pj...
