Ives acci dentally shot himself last Satur day at the Morlev ranch near Datil, ninety miles west of Mag dalena. Doctor Ives had been riding during the early part of the day. When he entered the bouse on his return his automat ic pistol fell to the floor and ex- f loded. The ball entered Doctor ves' thigh, ranged upward, and lodged in his intestines. Death ensued at about ten o'clock that night. Deceased came to Socorro county several years ago from New York for his health. A special dispatch from Santa Fe to the Albuquerque Morning Journal says: "Among other opinions hand ed down by the supremo court today is an opinion by Chief Justice Mills sustaining the opin ion of the lower court in the case of the territor y vs. Abran Aboy ta, a former treasurer of So.or ro county. It is charged that Abeyta embezzled a large aniourt of money belonging to the comi ty. This money was afterward made good by an agreement le tween' his bondsmen and the county commission. Abeyta. however, was indicted upon sev eral counts for embezzlement. The court held that under sec tion 1125 of the compiled laws a demurrer to an indictment against a county treasurer charging em bezzlement, 'is properly sustained where the indictment does not charge that the accused was not able to meet the demand of any person lawful...
