LOCAL TOPICS. Miss Alma Lamona was married this (Wednesday) evening to F. M. Cleary of Seattle, who it a graduate of Gonzaga college, Spokane. The ceremony was performed by Father Verhagen, at the residence of P. W. Lamona, 2017 Eighth avenue, Spokane. Miss Bertha Skinner was maid of honor and Will Ziegler best man. Miss Lamona is a sister of P. W. ? Lamona, one of the proprietors of the Northwestern Paint and Varnish Co. and a daughter -of John H, Lamona, one of the pioneers of Spokane. She graduated from the Spokane high school and is well known there. , Judge Geo. M. Gilchrist and wife of Vinton, lowa, arrived Monday and are guests of their nephew, Dr. John M. Adams and wife on Knob hill. They left home six months ago, coming out by way of Colorado and California, stopping at intermediate points there and along the Pacific slope which both have enjoyed. LOCAL TOPICS. The musical cantata, Quten Esther, given at the opera house Saturday and Monday evenings, by local talent, was an artistic and financial success. A crowded house greeted the singers on both appearances. The leading part was ably interpreted by Mrs. R. A. Chitten den, who was particularly becoming in the majestic and gracious character of Queen Esther. She war; ably supported by Prof. A. A. Snowden as King Ahas eurus, a strong bass, F. VVeiand as Ha inan, the villian, Herbert D. Bell as Mordecai, a fine tenor, Miss Alice Dor man who sang the beautiful alto solos of Zeresh with fine dramatic perception, Miss Kathleen Hallin as Persian prin cess, Miss Emily Koch as Median prin cess, Mrs. Mattie E. Martin, Mrs. Frank E. Stuart, R. Clyde Kennedy, and others. Mrs. W. H. LOCAL TOPICS. One of the finest residences in the county is the new home of Daniel A. Scott which has just been completed on the farm six miles west of town. The fine structure is white brick veneer and is the handiwork of. James Schiewe & Co., and presents a model handsome dwelling. The stone work was done by John Finlay and the painting and paper ing and artistic touches so beautifying to a well arranged home was in the skilled hands of Faucher & Gcr/ey. When furnished and ready for occupancy the cost will reach $5,000 or more. The plumbing providing for hot and cold water baths, etc. was installed under the critical eye of J. J. Joyce and is said to i be a most excellent .piece of workman ship. A basement 28 feet square con tains the furnace for heating through out every room in the house. LOCAL TOPICS. John Bovee and John C. Shorno have begun the erection of a one-story brick A building in block 10 on the site where the recent fire occurred which destroyed their wooden structure. The Bovee build ing will he used for a meat market and will be fitted up with cold storage and first-class furnishings. The Shorno build ing will be occupied by the postoffice and W. L. Howland will have his con fectionery stock in the same room. Both buildings will have a 25-foot frontage and is a choice location.
