Quicksilver Gold. Mr Editor, — I desire to make your paper the medium of communicating to the public an interesting and important fact, hearing directly upon the uso of "(iuiekailver Gold' 1 as currency. A scientific friend stated to me a few days "since, that a lump of the above article wns brought to him for tin- purpose of cleansing, it having been blackened by uoiuo substance contained in the ve«tl in which it had been placed for the purpose of expelling the quicksilver. He used water for the purpose of washing off the acid with which he had cleansed the lump; and having weighed the gold before cleaning, he afterwards did so in order to ascertain the loss, and found it to be heavier than before. He says that a lump of the amalgam, weighing sixty ounces, will hold in its cavities nix ounces of water after the Burfaee shall have been dried, and that many days would eliipsu before the whole of the water would evaporate.
