December 22,2005 At the library By Dolores Greenwald, Sachse Public Library Director of Library Services Being your library director Often people think that working in a library is boring and all we do is shelve dusty old books. Nothing could be further from the truth! Therefore, I want to share with you just a few rewarding aspects of being your library director. And believe me when I say there are many, many more. Dec. 10 I had the unique opportu- nity to participate in the city's annual cookies with Santa event sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department. I read live books and presented a craft for the kids. To see the children's faces as I read the sto- ries and talked about the holidays was such a joy. I enjoyed every minute. The first week of December The Sachse High School Madrigal Singers performed holiday songs. To hear their beautiful voices resonating through the library was tru...

Engbrock Managing Editor Donnita Nesbit Fisher 'M-r. . Mi Future of Medicare shifts to private sector Don Hallum Whether good or bad the U.S. Congress always acts for a reason. Why did Congress pass the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) in 2003? The primary intent of MMA was to build private sector infrastructure to prepare for the growing influx of the baby boom population into Medicare. |MMA is an attempt to make this growing burden both manageable and financially possible. As the result of MMA increased funding more health care providers have entered the senior health care market. The menu of Medicare approved programs sponsored by the private sector is beginning to look more and more like the menu available to the pre-65 population. In North Texas, Medicare benefi- ciaries may choose from several Medicare Advantage...
