BROADCASTING. THE EARTH SYSTEM. [Newspaper Article] — The Biz — 23 February 1929

BROADCASTING. (Conducted by M. Wilson. Radio Stores, Ware-street, Fairfield). THE EARTH SYSTEM. A considerable number of radio enthusiasts go to a lot of trouble in making k good aerial, and they for get al) about an earth. Perhaps, be cause the earth, unlike the aerial, is "buried out of sight, and most likely forgotten. As has been stated before, the earth is just as important as the aerial, and this point cannot be em phasised too strongly. The efficiency of the earth depends on three things -first, upon the nature of the soil in which earth connection is made, and its degree of moisture: second, upon the size of your earth connec tion or pipe which is buried in the earth, and the way the earth wire is connected to it; and lastly, upon the length of wire connecting the receiv er to the earth connection. The moisture plays a very import ant part in the best reception, es Secially when a crystal set is used, [oist soil is far better than dry sandy soil, and for this reason the eart...

COUNCIL AND BLUE METAL CO. [Newspaper Article] — The Biz — 23 February 1929

COUNCIL AND BLUJE METAL CO. The Mayor . (Aid. Clancy), at the last. meeting o f Fairfield Council, tabled the following minute: "On the 7th instant I interviewed Mr. Bluett, and afterwards called upon Mr. Purvis at the office of the Sydney and Suburban Blue Metal Quarries Ltd., Sydney, and ascertain ed that the reason the Company had for not signing and sealing the agreement between this council and the company, is that as the trans former used by the company is sit uated in the area of Blacktown Shire and that as there is no agreement existing between the Fairfield Coun cil and the Blacktown Shire and that there is a possibility of the lat ter shire requiring the transformer to be removed at any time now that their own area is electrified, the com pany does not see its way clear to sign the agreement with clause 3 as it is now worded. I would suggest that clause 3 be so modified as to meet the company's wishes or a new agreement" drawn up."-Adopted.
