THEJIFLL The first meeting of the new commit tee of the Townsville Rifle Club was held on Frld.ay night. Present— Messrs J. S. Gill (chair). W. E. Blackwell, J. Miller, G. Murray, and A. Talt. It was resolved that a champion medal be given on tho s:une conditions as last year. Messrs W. II. Greeii and S. J. Hulbert, two of the vlco-patrons of. the club,' having generously donated two valuable trophies for competition. It was decided to start shooting for the former trophy as soon -as tariret nllot inents w«re available. Mr W. E. Black well was unanimously appointed nu-l, handlcapncr for the ensuing 12 months. Targets will be available this after noon for practlco. when a large roll-up Is anticipated. A cab will leave the Post Office at the usual hour.

MINING. Messrs Moulin and Co. quote the price of wolfram delivered at Towns vllls at 48s. per unit of 70 per cent w.o.8., equal to £16S per ton. The Durham Consols has put through a trial crushing of 221 tons lor a yield of 353oz. smelted gold, erjual to 13d ut. 20gr. per ton.' The gold Is valued at £3 As 5d per ounce. Concentrates and sands to come. There has been little or no anima tion in the southern markets during the week, and most stocks have bad a weakening tendency. Chillagocs eased 2d. Dalzlell's, which have been lan guishing of late, have Imd a fair re vival, buyers offering li'fl. more last night than they did at the correspond ing call last week. Glassford Creeks show no alteration, but Mount Cannln dah3 receded 3d. METAL MARKETS The London metal market has been somewhat unsettled during the past weok, both copper and tin fluctuating to the- extent of a few pounds per ton. On July 5 spot copper was quoted at £93 10s., but on Tuesday had advanced -to £)00 10s. Since then it has come down steadily ti- £97 IDs, yesterday's closing figure. That leaves a marginal rise when compared with the corres ponding day of last wceit of tl. While on th-: 5th the forward price was only £2 36s below that for spor, yesterday's figures show a difference of f6 13s. That would incl-cate a further fall In values. Tin has had a. sharp decline. When last reviewed spot ston.l at £199 r-s.. an.'l since then lias stradily receded to flS'3 jOs.— a drop of £12 10s for the week. Th2 lorward quotation yesterday was £6 under spot.
