THE WESLEYAN CHURCH, MOUNT GAMBIER^— PENINl AND CONSECRATING?^ERVICES. [Newspaper Article] — Border Watch — 11 April 1862

THE WESLEYAN CHURCH, MOUNT GAMBIEk ^OPENINlG AND CONSECRATING? ^SERVICES. ; New localities require new names for " specific spots or districts; and the elevation tin the east side of-The Mount, now crowned by two places of worship, is io be hereafivr known as CHURCH HILL. , Tbe Presby terian Church now bears tbie name of St. Andrews : but it was closed last Sabbath, in order that the pastor, ihe Rev. Mr. Don, and his congregation, might take part in tlieopening services at the new Wesley an Church. .This harmonising: unity between two (distinct bodiei of Protestauts, was not only extremely creditable to all concerned, but affogg^a very sufficient anmer to those who sometimes point the finger of scorn at Protestant ditlerences, and who sometimes say (io a worse spirit than that of St. Paul's) .' there be divisions amorg ye.*K: The . junction of Presbyterians and German Lutherans withWesIeyans, on^this occasion, shows that Protestanism contains within its core that charity which is th...

OUR AGRICULTURAL COLUMN. [Newspaper Article] — Border Watch — 11 April 1862

;. OUR' AGRICULTURAL COMJMK. Our Mount Gambier Society has* rather & long'sounding and - somewhat urimanage-' able title. It is Pastoral,: Agricultural, and Horticultural wool, wheat, and ap ples. But there is A'time and a season : for all things j and a serious subject should' always "lie treated hi a graVe manner, We shall, therefore, lay . before our .agricultural aud. horticultural' readers a few "pickings from prims," illus trative of various matters which should en gage the attention of the Mount* Gambier Agricultural, Pastoral, and Horticultural .Association/, First, then,-vvhh respect. to the iropor; lant subject of the " Exportation of Wheal.'' T COMMERCIAL AND a r k e i s . border Watch Office, ' Thursday, April 10. At Adelaide there has been large transac tions in wheat, both for exnortation and also to hold for. better rates, Flour has also been . in some demand, but on the whole, the mar ket has beeu quiet. During the time that extensive orders were being executed fori wheat, sales were made as high as 7d. per bushel at the Port, but the price receded to . 4s, 6d, and in town buyers were giving 4s. 2d to 4s 3d. At Adelaide and on the Mount, good fresh butter has been scarce. The supply of eggs has been tiiodera'e.. Farmers round the Mount might find it to their interest to pay more regular attention to Daity Produce, a ' matter which has been rather neg'ected in this quarter. ' The question of establishing a regular ex* .portation of wheat and other produce .froui MacDonnell Baybas been recently muoh discursed on the Mount, -Atthe Mount Gambier Mills no particular alteration has been reported, but, we hope to have some...

OCCURRENCES. [Newspaper Article] — Border Watch — 11 April 1862

. OCCURRENCES# THE LATE INSPECTOR PETTINGER. We are happy to be able tostate that     Messrs. Acraman, Main, Lindsay & Co., agents for the Royal Insurance Company have, with praiseworthy promptitude, paid to Mr. Pettinger'a widow £1,000, the sum for which his life was insured. To such a case the maxim Bis dat qui cite dat, seems,   specially applicable. We may explain to the juvenile readers of the BORDER WATCH that the Latin citation in the preceding ex tract means, that is twice done which is done quickly. We omitted in our last issue, to notice the accident which happened to Mr. Engi» neer Barrow. Mr. John McKelfar, of Ardacby, was driving Mr. Barrow from h's residence to the Tabara Bridge, when the vehicle was accidentally overturned, and Mr. Barrow-sustained the fracture of two of his ribs. , ? THE RECENT SHOCK OF AN EARTH- QUAKE.--:It will be seen from our Mor- phett Vale corespondent's letter that the shock of an earthquake was f...
